Match Report NMJFC U9s vs Alderley United FC U9 girls  – 09/12/23

The weather was pretty horrible today, grey, cold and miserable, but today’s match couldn’t be further from this. Bursting with enthusiasm, exhilaration and of course, smiles all round!

We started again today with some uncertainty regarding our opponents, who were down to a team of 4, we had 8 girls on our side, with Seren having a well deserved rest after a late night of musical theatre.

A lightbulb moment from one of our coaches suggested the idea of lending our opponents 2 players, so we could play a fun and energetic 6-a-side game. As always, the girls did not disappoint, having no reservations to volunteer to play with our opponents, and first to step up to the challenge was Millie and Emily.

Meanwhile our New Mills side started with Paige in net, who performed magnificently, not letting a single goal passed her, keeping a close eye on the ball at all times. Ebony and Agnes started up front and kept Alderley on their toes with a number of shots on target. Annabella was in mid-field and did some excellent marking and  tracking up and down the pitch. Jessica and Ava started in defence and both got utterly stuck in with their tackles and kicking the ball out of danger.

I couldn’t write this match report without referring to Millie and Emily who demonstrated commendable attitude in yet again more exceptional circumstances, joining Alderley in the first half. They developed great teamwork skills with their newly formed teammates and put a constant pressure on their New Mills teammates, their tackling and marking was heartwarming to watch, and it was so good to see our girls once again being able to deal with and cope with all that is thrown at them in this game.

The second half we saw Ebony and Ava join our Alderley opponents, and wow, what a show! Both these girls had some excellent shots on target, with Ebony scoring the first goal for Alderley United, a powerful shot that would have been hard to save. Ava likewise, demonstrated some skilful action on the ball with a super dribble to the goal, however our goalie Emily stepped in with conviction and stopped it hitting the back of the net.

All the girls today played incredibly well. Their attitude to this game is remarkable, and a joy to watch. The skills they are learning in training is great to see. The girls positioned themselves well, they marked their players, you can see their confidence growing each week, even in the short time they have been playing competitive football.

Player of the Week was awarded to Paige. Paige is a natural striker, but today she demonstrated her skills as a goalie, and like last time, she is a real asset to the team here. She played strenuously, she listened to the coaches instructions, and defended her goal fearlessly.

But note has also got to be paid to Ebony, whose performance in the second half with Alderley United, was actually awarded with their equivalent of Player of Week. Well done girls, what an achievement and what an experience!

I didn’t know what to expect from today’s game, but I have to say, this has to be one of my favourite games to watch – the girls, on both sides, played so well and to have 2 Players of the Week from the New Mills side is one way to show how well our girls have played. And as the Alderley manager commented after the match, our girls are ‘a massive credit to our club’ ⭐️

Well done girls 👏
