After last weeks entertaining win away to local rivals Chinley, the under 14s welcome Bollington to the home of football @ New Mills Juniors.
The first 10 minutes of this fixture must’ve seen a record number of throw ins given. Once the game calmed down New Mills began to go about their business. The first goal of the game came straight off the training ground when William whipped in a delicious corner for Joe to thump a Header into the bottom corner of a congested penalty box…1-0 great header!
New Mills began knocking the ball around with some swagger. After a number of successful passes, the ball found its way to centre half Nate who sprayed a world-class diagonal ball to Max, he then control it on his chest and dispatched the ball with some style past the charging goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
Completely against the run of play Bollington made it 2-1 despite the offside flag being raised and the forward stood a good 3 yards offside, the New Mills defence was waiting for a whistle that never came. VAR would’ve definitely overturn this decision…2-1 Half Time.
After the break Bollington tried to make it difficult for the Millers, but it wasn’t long before Max ran onto a missed kicked clearance to smash the ball into the bottom left and corner to put his team 3-1 up!
The Millers worked hard and pressed the ball high all game and was well rewarded with a fourth goal. Max won the ball high up the pitch, he beat his man and squared the ball to the feet of Harvey who slotted the ball home.
Camped inside the Bollington half for most of the second-half. New Mills looked for more goals, the ball was moved from left to right of the field. Matheus danced his way into the box and squared the ball unselfishly to William who was never going to miss out on a tap in 5-1 The Millers. Inside the last 10 minutes of the game Harvey hit a thunderous shot which hit the crossbar and is probably still shaking, with Devah also hitting the post too.
But the scoring wasn’t over. Ruben found himself with some space out on the left and drilled in a great ball! Declan was making a late run into the box, he then side footed the ball past the outstretched keeper. With the final whistle looming Bollington were given a penalty for a clumsy tackle inside the area. The penalty was calmly slotted past the helpless Logan. The thoroughly enjoyable game ended 6-2 to the Millers.
Despite conceding two goals the Millers defence Nate, Gene, Ruben and Luke played really well, as well as the heart of the team Joe, Tom and Declan. Forwards Devah, Max, Harvey William and Matheus, all linked up brilliantly throughout the game.A truly impressive team performance 👏🏻
As I’m sure everyone will agree this group are playing some amazing football and should all be proud of their performances and so may continue. THANK YOU for your on going support as always.
