Match report NMJFC Under 16s - 18 April 2021

Didsbury Juniors Red 1-5 New Mills Under 16’s

The Millers Under 16’s recorded a tenth consecutive victory, defeating a gallant Didsbury side in tricky conditions at Fog Lane. A very dry, worn pitch greeted The Millers on their arrival, making it difficult for the league leaders to play their usual crisp passing game. Nevertheless they found a way to combat both the conditions and their opponents, flying out of the traps and taking a two goal lead before the home side had settled. Joel Boyes slotted in from close range on four minutes for the first, before Frank Woodrow tapped in his 22nd of the season a minute later to make it two, but although they dominated proceedings the third goal took some time to arrive. With half-time approaching Kit Maddox hooked in a cross and the Reds keeper parried Woodrow’s close range effort straight to Boyes who tapped home from two yards out. The Millers wasted chance after chance in the second half before Jake Brooks fired in his tenth of the season on 71 minutes & two minutes later Boyes slotted past the keeper to make it five and complete his hat-trick. A defensive mix up led to Didsbury pulling a goal back with two minutes to play, but it was little more than a consolation as there was no further scoring.
