Our 3rd game of the group stage and another tough test for New Mills Blacks as we were up against Chapel Town Yellows who we know all too well!
It was an incredible game to watch and some fantastic football being played by both teams but I have to admit, Chapel deserved the lead. Their goal found its way over the goal line in the most fortunate manner. Chapel took the corner and swung the ball in and it bounced off three different pairs of legs before ending up in the back of the net!
Chapel began to dominate and Frankie had to make a few wonderful saves in goal to keep us in the contest. Finally their pressure paid off and Chapel doubled the lead. We needed to find something before half-time and the chances started to arrive. Oliver B⚽️ tried his luck at a corner and with an in-swinger and he got a little fortunate as the keeper didn’t get enough on it to keep it out and we had the late 1st half goal we needed.
Second-half, NM Blacks were better and began to settle and find our ‘Mojo’. The equaliser was a blinder…. The ball was cleared from defence and Albie⚽️ was on the chase. He kept the ball just ahead of the chasing Chapel defender as he ran the length of the pitch, still managing to keep the defender in his wake. In doing so, he left himself with a tricky finish but he slotted it into the bottom corner with his left-foot. Sensational goal💥 and New Mills were level.
Both teams went at it then. It was end-to-end stuff and the parents watching were treated to top quality football. Oliver B made some great saves in goal to keep us in it. On this occasion we didn’t get the luck we deserved and Chapel managed to find the net one more time and we just didn’t have enough time to come back. It was another great encounter against a well prepared opposition.
Special mention to Frankie & Oliver B who both volunteered to play in goal. The pair of you did outstanding.
