First ‘Derby Day’ of the calendar year and once again this fixture served up another epic encounter for the families watching, who were treated to a fantastic football match.
NM Blacks came out the blocks firing and looked impressive in the early period. Albie & Oliver giving the Yellows no time on the ball and Finley & Sam at the back making sure there was no way through for our opposition. Albie was in great form again and was working hard both on & off the ball. He never stopped running and got his reward when a great shot from distance hit the back of the net.
NM Yellows came back at us and Frankie needed to be commanding. He’d offered to play in goal but there were times when he was operating as a sweeper aswell as the keeper and he quickly turned the defensive pressure we were under into a counter-attack and there was Albie again, running the channels, looking for opportunities to strike and he got another. Nothing less than he deserved, Albie was in top form!
Jacob, Ollie M & Stanley all played their part by coming on and giving NM Blacks a more defensive unit and everyone of them got stuck-in and we finished the first-half strongest, showing the depth of quality we have in this group.
Second-half – Stanley offers to go in goal. He was brilliant.
Jessica was on the field now and she was making her presence known. In the box for a NM Blacks corner, Jessica was the most advanced player, hovering in front of their goalkeeper when the ball came swinging in. The ball was attempted to be cleared but went in and NM Blacks had a another. Well done Jess!
Ronan ‘The Rocket´ put another incredible effort in the back of the net for the Yellows and we had to dig in and make sure we could see the game out.
Final whistle blows and the whole of New Mills should be proud of these two wonderful teams.
Great Game
