New Mills U9 v Bramhall 75 Eagles
The whole squad warmed up well and seemed determined to make today’s game one to remember.
The game started slowly with both teams trying to get some passing football going. The mini millers began pressing the Bramhall back line with more urgency which created a chance that went narrowly wide.
The mini millers then opened scoring after Darragh tapped home following a good save from the Bramhall keeper. The mini millers confidence grew with Bert also reacting first to rebound from the post and slotting it home.
The third goal came soon after as a mix saw the bundled over the line again by Darragh. Mini millers chances were being created from the hard work of Dan, Ollie, Bert and Darragh. Bobby and Daniel had the back door firmly locked and Bobby was even joining the attacks when he could . Hazza was setting the tone for every attack with outstanding distribution and handling all game.
Changes to line up were made with Gregory taking the attacking role as Dan came off for a break and Fred gave Daniel a rest. The half time whistle came and the mini millers had established a good control of the game.
The second half was now a test for the lads to see if they could maintain the standard set in the first half which all the players did superbly. Fred was tackling hard and driving the team forward and Gregory was holding the ball in the forward position to allow others players to join the attacks.
Further goals for the mini millers Bert smashing home from the ten yards out for his second of the game and then another goal mouth scramble saw another excellent save from the Bramhall keeper allowed Bobby to volley home from close range.
Bramhall then made some changes and began to attack more frequently and got their rewards as Hazza again saved well only for the ball to be tapped home.
This goal galvanised the mini millers as they went on the attack straight from the kick off Darragh again beating his man and clipping the ball to the back post for Fred to control and smash home the last goal of the game.
The most impressive part of today’s fantastic performance was the respect the lads showed to Bramhall before during and after the match.
It takes a special team to win and lose with the same humility.
Liam, Rob and myself are extremely proud of the football this team has produced in what was the most difficult of years for everyone.
