Match report NMJFC Under 9s Falcons - 19/02/23

The Falcons lined up against Hayfield U9’s at Glossopdale this morning.

Both teams were impacted with this fixture being brought forward a week and sickness doing the rounds so the teams lined up differently to as they would normally. And with the league supporting the FA Silent Weekend and no other games being played at the same time, there was an eerie silence around the pitch.

This definitely impacted the Falcons, who struggled from the first whistle to get any kind of rhythm going. The team didn’t have their usual energy and poor communication led to Hayfield creating a number of early attacks.

Half-time couldn’t come soon enough and a much needed re-group. The message was clear - more energy, more effort and more determination. Do this and the chances will come.

The second half was a much better performance from the Falcons and better reflected how they have been playing over the past few weeks. The team created more chances and this made for a more even game.

Falcons goals today from Alfie ⚽️ and Angus ⚽️

Huge thank you to Zac from the Eagles for stepping in as extra cover - he did amazing being thrown in at the deep end.

Special mention to todays captain Angus. One of the fixtures he really looks forward to, Angus gave 100% today. He supported the team by dropping deep when we needed to defend and was a constant source of attacks down the right hand side. His performance was rewarded with an excellent goal.

Today’s player of the match was Henry. Playing on the left side of midfield in the first half and defence in the second half, he understood his responsibilities and what his priorities were when playing in the different positions.

His growing confidence saw Henry show great composure on the ball and playing a number of excellent passes to his team mates when under pressure.

Thoroughly deserved the trophy today Henry - stay focussed and keep working hard.

No game for the Falcons next week, so it’s a well deserved rest before we hit the final run in of the season. Bring it on!

⚽️🖤💛⚽️
