MATCH REPORT NMJU9 07/09/24

Today the U9’s kicked off the new season with multiple changes. We were playing at a ‘new to us’ venue, Woodley Sports Village.

A change in format moving up to 7-aside, and new rules meaning no headers or throw ins. We also had one of our new team mates in Pavak who has moved up from training only, and a new coach with Jack coming on board.

We were up against Adswood United, a team we have played a couple of times previously.

The boys had been working hard pre-season and following a ballot for captaincy, Stanley was announced as the first one up to take the armband for the next month.

Adswood kicked off, immediately putting us to test, getting loads of players forward and putting us under pressure. Within a couple of minutes we conceded but we didn’t let our heads drop.

As we moved further into the game, we started to launch a couple of attacks of our own, with Stanley crossing a ball in from the left, which Teddy dummied (apparently) leaving Charlie J at the back post free to open up our scoring for the season.

The 2nd half we started to rotate our players with Pavak taking a turn in attack and defence. Jackson and Teddy rotated in to the right, with Stanley and Charlie on the left and Max, James and Rhys in defence and centre midfield.

Adswood came out strong from the break and with a few attacks, really putting our defence to test, and relying on Charlie T in goal - who pulled off some great stops to keep us in the game. This continued throughout the half and the boys fought well.

They were incredibly well disciplined, and didn’t rise to some of the poor behaviours displayed today. A credit to the club.

Special mentions to Charlie J for opening our scoring for the season, ‘Teddy the Terminator’ who was solid today, he really got stuck in and gave as good as he got, only narrowly missed out on POTM, and our new captain Stanley for getting a goal and assist and the Player of the match.

Well done NMJ U9’s
