It was great to be back at Glossopdale for the first game of the season in the High Peak Junior Football League.
The big changes for the team this season is moving to 7 a side, playing on a bigger pitch and adhering to the “no heading” rules that are being trialled in the league. The team have been working hard in training to adapt and the priority today was to put that into action.
Our opponents today were Glossop NE U9 Reds and both teams were eager to get their season underway. The first half was a very even game with both sides showing a great level of energy and creating a number of chances.
The Falcons tried to do more of the same in the second half, but the extra game time and size of the pitch started to take its toll. But in the end it was great to get through the first game of the season so we know what to expect next week and for the season ahead.
Special mention today to our captain Poppy, who continues to lead from the front. Her intelligence is outstanding, with her ability to find space and make accurate passes a joy to watch.
Our player of the match today was Rowan. New to the Falcons, he played his first league game this morning and was excellent in defence. Fantastic marking, tackling and passing and totally deserved this award.
Well done today Falcons - a tough start to the season, but loads of positives to take away.
