The Yellows lined up against Hayfield U12 Lionesses at Glossopdale, looking to build on last week’s excellent performance.
This was going to be a real test for the team, playing against an older age group and a team we know have great technical ability and like to play a quick passing game.
With Nathan failing a late fitness test, it was a reshuffle in midfield, but the Yellows were ready for the challenge and went toe to toe with the opposition in an entertaining first half.
Building from the back, Zac was commanding his goal and the defence of Lucas, Jack and today’s captain, Henry, were working hard together to limit the number of Hayfield attacks.
Oscar, Sami and Robbie were a constant threat up front. They were creating some good chances and were using their pace when the game was stretched to get behind the defence and work the opposition goalkeeper.
The real battles were happening in midfield. Some fantastic 1v1 battles happening across this area, with Leo, Angus, Riley and Fletcher rotating to great effect.
As we went into the second half, the game was more open with both teams taking more risks. Like last week, this high level of energy caught up with the team towards the end - a combination of tiredness and lack of concentration - but everyone came off the pitch positive, knowing they gave 100%.
Goals for the Yellows today…
⚽️ Officially an own goal, but great play from Leo to put pressure on the defender after a cross into the box
⚽️ Oscar, with the goal of the day, a sublime side footed half volley from the edge of area, lofted over the goalkeeper and dropping perfectly under the crossbar and into the goal. What a cheer when this went in!
Special mention to today’s player of the match, Leo. Relentless end to end action and kept the energy levels up towards the end when the team needed it.
Well done Yellows! Another positive step in our journey for this season. Roll on next week!
