Week 3 for The Mini-Millers who got the opportunity to play on the big pitch, right in front of the Main Stand 🏟 on Saturday morning.
The stage was set for The Hornets to continue their excellent start and very smooth transition into The Metro League in Stockport. As always we had a full-team to pick from so with 3 subs, we needed to keep rotating the players and the boys embraced the challenge of playing in different positions.
Fenn was in goal as always and there is nobody more prepared than this young man and he was tremendous . . . . again! Even though the officials had not marked out a penalty area, Fenn was in the right place at the right time on every occasion.
Frankie moved into Centre-Back and was solid, whilst Kai occupied Right-Back & Rocket was Left-Back. We had Finley & Oliver L on the sidelines to begin with and if you watch this team regularly, you will understand what talent we have in defence. This has been the key our success over the last year or more and it proved to be the difference again.
Up top, the lads are pretty handy too! Ollie M is in the most sensational form right now and was everywhere. Albie was creating the magic and Oliver B was charging at the opposition and The Hornets were on top. The introduction of Charlie kept Woodley on the back foot.
The first 5 minutes were very even but as coaches we needed the kids to express themselves more and take some risks. The instruction was clear, “Go & show them how good you are!”
Albie was running the midfield show and Ollie M⚽️ was benefiting and grabbed himself an early goal with a calm & accurate finish. Ollie M⚽️ was at it again, sweeping up the rebounds and finding the back of the neck again! Superb forward play Ollie M.
Ollie M then became the creator and as both him & Oliver B were being fed passes from our defenders, now it was Albie’s⚽️ moment to turn on the magic. Like a mini Paul Scholes👨🦰, our Maestro⚽️ was pulling the strings and bagged himself another.
The defence was standing up to the test as our opponents began to get a foot-hold in the game. Finley & Oliver L were tough & Kai was getting stuck in there too. It’s at these moments we need to keep our discipline and maintain our individual positions rather than all trying to get on that score-sheet.
Nobody did this better than Kai! He stuck to the job-at-hand and owned that right-back position. Kai was also linking up the attacks and when Frankie received his pass from the back, he we were on the attack & switching up the play. Frankie & Ollie M were keeping possession and when Ollie M laid the ball back to Frankie⚽️ there was only ever going to be one outcome!
A solid performance from The Hornets but dare I say it, the best is still yet to come! POTM went to Kai🏆 who has settled right in and showing us coaches what he is made of. Sticking to the game plan & following instructions, Kai was awesome!
Next weekend we have our first cup match this season. Come on boys, lets show them what we’re made of 💛🖤⚽️
