NMJFC U10's Hornets V Richmond Rovers Clarets - 28/9/24

This season is all about ‘New Experiences’ for The Hornets & ‘Unknown Quantities’. Every weekend we go into the game with no knowledge of our opponents, just safe in the belief of our own abilities & strengths!

With that being said, we were actually up against a RR Clarets again but this time it was in The Richard Gregg KO Cup Preliminary Round. Winners go through to The First Round Proper….. how exciting!

We have been working on the boys possession skills in training and trying to increase the intensity and speed when we are on the ball. This involves an awful lot of movement off the ball and the lads were creating spaces all over the pitch it was very easy on the eye.

The boys were a little nervous to begin with and we’ll put this down to it being a Cup Game. Always solid at the back, it was important to take our chances upfront & once The Hornets settled, there was no stopping them.

In goal Fenn and when called upon was in top form as always. He has also worked on his distribution, particularly using his feet. The odd big kick out or short goal-kicks to the wing are creating a fluency amongst the team and it’s the attackers that are benefiting from Fenn’s hard work.

Ollie M once again started us off with another poaches-goal from 6 yards. He just seems to be in the right place at the right time . . . everytime! This isn’t luck, far from it. He has a strikers instinct and over the summer he has watered this and it is now bloomin’ 🪴

Albie was at it again too, with a fabulous finish. He is linking up well with Charlie, Oliver B & Ollie M in the final-third and our defenders are playing a higher-line now, supporting & recycling the attacks. It looks brilliant to watch and the confidence being displayed by Finley, Frankie, Kai, Oliver L & Ronan meant the opposition simply couldn’t get the ball back.

Frankie was also at it again with another shot from distance ending up in the roof of the net! More side-foot accuracy than a blast off the laces and The Hornets looked comfortable. Albie finished off the first-half with another great attacking move, created by Frankie & Oliver B on the right wing.

Second-Half we wanted to present the boys with some new ‘in game’ challenges and all of our outfield players were tested by the coaches. The attackers played at the back so our defenders could go up top. Oliver L was pulling the strings and thoroughly enjoying being further up the pitch. The lads embraced the test. None more so than Oliver B who grabbed himself a couple, one after another in quick succession.

Next up was Ronan who got his reward, nothing less than he deserved. Attention shifted towards getting our new boys more involved & Kai was in the right place.

Charlie was working his socks off and on another day would have grabbed a goal, next week Charlie-Boy.

A real team performance from The Hornets and POTM went to every single one of them 🏆
