Match report, 02-Oct-2022  New Mills Bees U8 vs New Mills Hornets U8

It was a beautiful sunny and not too cold morning for a drive over to Glossopdale on Sunday.  It was a derby day for New Mills U8s, with the Bees playing the Hornets.

This week was FA playsafe weekend so we were joined by the Derbyshire FA. The kids had no problem showing them how keen they were to play. The Derbyshire FA handed out a captains armband and Charlie showed he was keen to take on the role of captain today.

We knew the Hornets would be a tough team to play but the Bees were ready.  With no Toby this week we needed a volunteer for goalkeeper. Stanley quickly put his hand up, keen to put the training we've been through on Wednesdays into practice.

The game started at a fast pace. Joshua was quickly put to the test in defence intercepting lots of passes forwards and making good clearances.  Rocco and Leo did a great job in midfield winning possession and putting the Hornets under pressure.  A good through ball up the pitch from Joshua put Leo up the pitch against the keeper and he converted it followed up with a great celebration.  The first half was close with both teams playing great.

The second half came and the Hornets really started to put on the pressure.  Alexander and Seren did a great job tackling and dribbling in midfield, however struggled to get the ball through to Charlie.  The Hornets managed to push the ball into the Bees half for lots of chances.  This is where Stanley's goalkeeper training really came in, you can really see how much he has learnt from training and playing previous weeks.  This week he was confident to come out to challenge the striker and made sure to pounce on any ball that came into the box and pick it up.  Along with making so many great saves is why he claimed the man of the match trophy this week.  Great work Stanley!

This week the Bees were up against tough opposition but they showed how well they can play.  Overall it was a great match and just really good to see the players improving each week.  Being a derby it was great to see both teams getting on so well and also playing in such a great atmosphere with loads of positive support from the parents.
