A new week and a new game for the New Mills Vipers to sink their teeth into. This week again the full squad would be present for the game against Inter Cheadle on silent weekend, where supporters applaud rather than shout to the children. This week we wanted the team to work on moving the ball across the field using the passing we have been working on in training. Elliott was captain and would take the gloves for the second half as well. What proceeded was a great game of football with all the Vipers showing what they can do.
Kingsley was superb in goal in the first half with great distribution, even getting an assist for Elliott with a long ball downfield. In the second half he came out and although keen to take shots himself, he showed glimpses of his passing ability which was awesome to see. Very happy to also get on the scoresheet himself with a well taken effort.
Leo was as calm and composed as ever at the back, always seeming to be in the right position to snuff out danger or delay attacks long enough for teammates to get back and support. Always keen to keep the ball moving he was important in our plan to shift the ball quickly across the pitch and he didn’t disappoint.
Kit was full of energy as usual and although disappointed this week he didn’t get a goal or assist, he was diligent in his defensive duties, superb with his passing, was a great team player. He worked particularly well in the second half with Lily down the left-hand side, a new position for Kit, but he took to it with his usual spirit and determination.
Jude week on week is growing into a dynamic left wing back, Mr. Amorim take note if you need one as Jude could be your man. He provides defensive cover and is not afraid of any tackle but he is trying to bring much more to his match day performances with passing, goals and assists and he provided the assist of the week this week with a superb cross after a great run down the left. He managed to put it in the only place it could reach Logan for him to smash it high into the net. Keep working hard JJ, you’re doing brilliant.
Alistair is another who is growing into a great right sided player. His confidence is building in his abilities, with shots, tackles, driving runs and crossing to teammates. This week he was more defensive than last week to help his team but was also quick to support attacks. Some strong tackling and lovely passing were on display, keep it up Alistair.
Elliott was as clinical as ever in the first half and made some super stops in goal in the second. As captain he led from the front and didn’t allow Cheadle to settle alongside Logan, they squeezed up the field to put pressure on. Took both his goals well, his quick reactions also provide a spark but his understated work ethic to get up and down the field is not underestimated by those who watch him.
Thomas’ industry goes from strength to strength and this week he showed his strength, holding players off and putting in some tough tackles. He was also unlucky not to score with a shot straight at the keeper. Full of energy this week to win the ball high or to run back and
help, each week he gives the coaches a reason to smile as we can see his growth in one area or another.
Logan showcased his attacking abilities this week with a hand in 5 goals, scoring four himself. His dynamic running, superb pressure from the front and sheer determination this week showed as he played with a smile on his face. His link up play with Elliott, Lily & Thomas too was great to see. Nice to see you playing with a smile Logan keep it up.
Lily is the bravest player on the team; she gets a rough deal sometimes as other boys don’t like being tackled by her but she does not care at all! If you have the ball, she wants it off you, whether you like it or not, she is going to win it. She played in defence for the first time this week and it was good to see her being more disciplined in not driving forward and making sure she covered at the back. In the second half she completed the scoring with a great strike and she thoroughly deserved her goal for her bravery all game long.
As you’ve read, so much could be said about the Vipers and how it is a joy to coach and watch them each week, well done team!!
