Match Report – 6th September, New Mills Juniors U8s Vipers vs Alderley United Bayern U8s.

New season…same team…same league…new name.  After an amazing first season in the Metro League our now U8s have become the Vipers due to 2nd team in our club.

The Vipers were ready for their first game of the season against new opponents in Alderley Utd Bayern.  New team, no matter… we face every challenge together, bravely as a team.

As it was the first game, we wanted our players to enjoy the first game, have smiles on their faces and see if we could make some passes and score some goals, as always, the result is not as important as the enjoyment of the game.

The usual squad arrived but no Alistair who had been delayed getting home from holidays, looking forward to seeing you next week Alistair.

Kingsley was captain for the game and started in goal in the first half. Thomas would take the gloves for the 2nd. Leo & Kit began as defenders, Logan in midfield and Elliott and Jude upfront.  Our gamechangers are just as important as the starters with Lily and Thomas ready to make their mark when entering the field.

The game that took place was a feast of football, both teams showcasing their abilities in all aspects of football.  What was pleasing to see from the Vipers was their smiles never wavered throughout the game.

No matter what Alderley United threw at them, they stood up to be counted.  Everyone played a great part in the game with goals from Elliott, Logan, Lily, Kingsley and Kit (although it was an own goal, we’ll give you credit for the cross).  Superb defensive play by all players but especially Leo and Jude.

Kingsley and Thomas both showed some super saves in goal, being brave and standing strong when faced with powerful efforts.  Some supreme effort from everyone running forward but also getting back with great work rate from Kit, Elliott, Logan and Lily.

We have been working on passing the ball around and building attacks, and it was great to see one move in particular moved the ball from goalkeeper to goalkeeper with almost every player touching the ball – great football from the Vipers.

We saw great passing, dribbling and what is become a strong characteristic of the team, a never be beaten attitude.  Everyone worked so hard up until the final whistle encouraged on by their ever-present support, making them proud of what they witnessed.  It was a great game of football played in the right way by both teams and we look forward to much more as the season progresses on the Vipers journey in the Metro league.
