After a tough test last week against the red's of Whaley Bridge, we were up against the blue's on Sunday morning, a very well organised and hard working side.
We were missing Myles, Finn and Aiden again this week, which gave everyone plenty of minutes on the pitch to run around and keep warm.
It was another chilly one up in Glossop but the sun was shining and New Mills got off to a bright start 🌞
Ryan was head chef today, cooking up a storm on the left wing and putting it on a plate for our forwards. He drove us down that line at every opportunity and put some lovely crosses into the box, something we worked on in training on Thursday night. Just the 2 assists for Ryan but on another day it could of been 10! 👨🍳
We had a special guest appearance from Xzibit aka big Max! Almost as impressive as his braids, he went on some mazy runs out from the back and eventually bagged himself a brace. He showed brilliant composure in the first half when he was through on goal, the keeper came out to put him under pressure but Max kept his cool and slotted one into the corner. 🥶
We've stopped counting now but Harrison continued his goalscoring run of games with another great finish. He's a nightmare for the opposition defenders, always chasing and pressing the ball, he's a coaches dream when it comes to effort and determination, another proper shift from Haz! 💪🏻
Some quick thinking from Ned stopped Whaley Bridge getting down our left hand side in the second half, he pressed them high up the pitch when they had a kick in, something that we struggled to deal with earlier in the season. He took a few tumbles infront of the parents but he was back on his feet and raring to go! 👊🏼
We spoke to Mia before the game about getting stuck in and not shying away from tackles, something that all the kids have improved on this season. Another big improvement from Mia was her first touch, our training session on Thursday was based around control and taking the ball on the turn, she demonstrated it perfectly in the second half when she took the ball on the turn, got it out of her feet and rifled one into the corner! 🚀
We have to give a shoutout to the opposition goalkeeper who looked like a prime Manuel Neuer, he made a good 15+ saves, some outstanding ones at that!
At the other end we had our very own sweeper keeper! After making some tidy saves it was Reuben's footwork that was on display today! He was reading the game well by rushing off his line to clear the ball away from danger, something he's been working on at goalkeeper training. 🕺
In a game where every player impressed us it was Teddy who was our player of the match. He kept us organised in every area of the pitch, making sure we marked up correctly on corners and kick ins. He was unselfish when we went on the attack, pushing everyone around him to go forward whilst he stayed back. Everything we did good in the game he applauded and when the kids made a mistake he was the first one to encourage them to keep going! He conducted himself and the rest of his team mates brilliantly, big up Ted! 🏆
When you have 1 hour a week to train with the kids, it can be difficult to implement new ideas but they concentrated so much this week and to see what we worked on being executed in the game was a joy to see. It's the parents and then the coaches job to prepare them for games, all the kids have to do is go out there and express and enjoy themselves, hopefully with a smile on their face, that's what it's all about 💛🖤
