Another brisk 12pm kick off at Glossopdale with a depleted Scorpions team against AFC Whaley Bridge.
Alfie - hope you’re firing on all cylinders soon 👊🏻
We’ve had more of a stuttering start to 2025 rather than the Scorpion express train that ended 2024, so we were hoping for a strong performance today.
Usual set up and off we go ….. the Scorpions were very slow out of the blocks and took time to get any flowing moves together.
Leo made a great run down the right touch line and passed the ball across for Callum to have an early shot which the Whaley keeper saved (shout out to the Whaley keeper who had a great game, he pulled off some superb saves)
Dylan on the left has been working tirelessly, pressing forward and covering back…. This time he managed to get the ball onto his left foot and let fly.. just wide.
Rocco T was making a nuisance of himself and really getting stuck into winning tackles, the ball broke and he steamed forward …. Let fly with a thunderbolt… only for it to hit the crossbar and bounce to safety.
The shots were coming in from all over the pitch…. Leo hit one, Frankie H hit a belter which just flew wide.
The defenders were holding firm with Dayvd and Will making some crucial tackles. When Frankie the Cat was needed, the ball was palmed away to safety.
Half time team talk… play our game & remember… time on the ball..
The Scorpions started the 2nd half a lot brighter and were looking to press forward. Leo made another lightning run down the right after jinking past a Whaley midfielder … crossed for Rocco T to hit it but he was denied by the keeper.
The Scorpions were beginning to assert themselves more, and Frankie H was making his presence felt. He had another rocket shot which was going in but the Whaley keeper made himself 2 feet taller to tip it over (👏🏻)
Rocco was far from finished and was constantly pushing forward hitting shots.
Callum, Dayvd and Will in the interchanging defence were working solidly together and not letting anything past them.
Dylan’s legs must’ve been ready for a rest after the amount of running he did today… he didn’t stop 👊🏻
With time ticking away and the 25 minutes just about up, the Scorpions won a corner. Leo drifted this into the box and up popped William to head home ⚽️
Absolutely fantastic and well deserved for the effort the Scorpions put in in the second half.
PoTM today was awarded to Frankie H…. Playing in an unfamiliar role but getting stuck in and giving a commanding performance.
⚽️🖤💛⚽️
