Match report New Mills U8 Bees vs New Mills U8 Wasps

A slightly later starter and a definite change in the weather this week as it got slightly warmer.  This week we started by all showing our appreciation of everything Mike Taylor has done for New mills junior football.  The kids understood well and made us all proud showing lots of respect to the founder of NMJFC as we took part in the minute round of applause.

This week was a derby against the New Mills Wasps so all the kids were excited to get on and play the game.  After a few minutes warming up we were ready to go.

Alexander volunteered to go in goal for the first half so put the goalie gloves on.

Charlie and Leo started up front and as usual put together a great partnership.  Charlie put lots of great passes up the pitch to Leo getting him into lots of space.

Leo was unfortunate not to convert a few of them but he was pushed away frequently by a strong performance from Frankie in goal for the Wasps.

Meanwhile lots of strong passing and runs up the pitch were causing problems for the Bee's in defence.

Joshua and Rocco did a great job here tackling and making good clearances up the pitch.  Alexander did a great job getting hold of the ball whenever it came into his area, showing good understanding of his role as the goalkeeper.

The Bee's got an opportunity with a freekick on the edge of the area.  Leo stepped up and hit it brilliantly over the wall and into the back of the net.

Stanley and Toby both got on the pitch to play up front for the remainder of the first half.

Stanley really showed how he is willing to get stuck in when playing out in the field making some great tackles and runs up the pitch.  Toby also came on and started making some great tackles and great passes up to Stanley.

The second half started with Leo helping out in defence.  Whilst we have lots of volunteers for attackers it's sometimes difficult to get the Bee's to be keen on playing in defence.  Leo did a great job stepping into this role making lots of clearances up the field to put the Bee's in an attacking position.  Stanley put the goalie gloves on for the 2nd half and as usual did a great job keeping the ball out of the net.

Rocco and Charlie meanwhile worked as a pair up front putting lots of pressure on the Wasps.

Charlie's persistence paid off and he found the back of the net with a great strike.

The Bee's continued to put the pressure on with lots of great runs up the pitch from Joshua and Toby from defence however they just couldn't quite convert more of these opportunities being frequently deterred by the Wasps goalkeeping and defence.

Overall this was another great match with all the players putting in loads of effort.

The kids love a derby as they get to play their friends and both these teams clearly had lots of respect for each other.

Leo claimed player of the week this week for making so many great runs up the pitch and also playing a great role in defence making so many good clearances.Well done Bee's - another great week at Glossopdale. 👏🏻
