Match Report NMJFC U10 Scorpions vs Whaley Bridge Athletic U10 - 20/10/24

It was a wet morning for football today but that wasn’t putting the fire out in any of the Scorpions this morning. Few in numbers, no subs territory we haven’t been in for a long time, but these are when they are most determined.

Whaley kicked off and they were definitely up for a match as well. First attack ended with a corner. Everyone got back apart from Leo who was to hold the halfway line. The whole team knew Leo was waiting for it. He got it. He turned the 🚀Rockets🚀on and set the tempo for the rest of the team 💥

Ted played the plough this morning. 🚛Pushing every player on both teams as far up the pitch as possible. The only player that Ted didn’t push up there was Callum 🧱who had the back covered whenever anyone slipped through.

Shot after shot was just wide, saved or deflected (Shout out to Whaley Bridges GK - Phenomenal effort) Leo fired a corner into Ted on the edge of the box. Another shot parried away but a second chance for Ted 💥

Half time came and the coaches didn’t have very much to say. “Keep up the hard work, don’t switch off and it will come.”

A quiet word with Dylan about the size of the heart is more important that the size of the player made his second half fantastic. He was not backing down; his footwork was incredible, and he seemed much bigger than he physically is. Another corner from the captain landed at Dylan’s feet. 💥 the effort he put in deserved the reward.

While Rocco and Alfie were consistently running into the box and getting a foot on it. The Whaley Bridge Goalkeeper was not making it easy. Pressing on them, making some lovely saves and not giving much space away. A scuffle in the box between the three of them found Rocco just throwing his body at the ball.

A lovely counter found Callum in a 3v1 situation, and he held off well, rarely made a wrong move the whole game but a 3 on one is never easy and our Frankie was put to work again.

Ted was carrying the weight of that responsibility; Ted doesn’t like to let people down and becomes frustrated with himself. Today he responded with a Screamer 😱from far back which certainly made up for it💥

This was such a fun game. The players were joking the coaches were laughing. Today was grassroots at its finest.

As coaches we couldn’t find many faults with this team all of them played incredible today but as already mentioned the player that could barely put a foot wrong was the week’s player of the match.

Always composed, always reliable and always a laugh Callum.
