Match Report NMJFC U11 Girls vs Altrincham FC Juniors U11 Girls Starling 24/01/2026

Our girls put on a strong and confident performance against Altrincham FC today, showing real growth, teamwork and determination throughout the match. From the opening whistle, New Mills were organised, brave and willing to work hard for one another, producing a performance that reflected how far the team has come week by week.

Jessica started in goal and set the tone early, playing confidently and showing real bravery by coming off her line when needed. Her decision-making was strong, and she dealt calmly with pressure in a first half where Altrincham tested the defence, even hitting the post three times. In front of her, Florence and Poppy D worked tirelessly. Poppy D seemed to be everywhere, defending strongly before driving the ball forward with purpose, while Florence covered the goal well and carried the ball out from the back with some excellent dribbles up the pitch.

Out wide, Annabella on the right and Ava on the left provided great energy and balance. Both made strong runs, moved the ball well through midfield and supported each other effectively. In the centre, Poppy J did a great job holding the ball up and linking play, helping the team move forward with calm passing.

Paige led the line up front, getting into good positions and firing off a number of shots. Her determination to score was clear, and although frustration crept in at times, her work rate never dropped.

Millie and Stevie came on as substitutes and made a strong impact. Stevie played up front initially, doing a brilliant job of holding the ball up, while Millie slotted into midfield and showed confidence with her runs on the ball.

One of the most impressive aspects of the first half was the team’s commitment to defending together, with every player tracking back and supporting each other.

The second half saw New Mills firmly on the front foot. Jessica remained in goal but had very little to do as the team controlled possession and territory. Florence began to step forward more confidently, carrying the ball into midfield and linking passes well. Poppy D continued her relentless running, covering huge areas of the pitch and driving play forward whenever possible.

Annabella and Ava linked up superbly on the wings, showing great understanding as one pushed on while the other covered, working seamlessly together.

Poppy J continued to drive the ball forward with purpose and made several strong supporting runs. Paige came close to a goal, striking the ball well and hitting the post in a moment that deserved a finish.

Millie moved up front in the second half, and continued to impress with her movement and willingness to get involved.

Meanwhile Stevie was pushed into midfield and delivered a standout performance. She played strongly and confidently, holding off opponents, protecting the ball and passing it off intelligently to teammates. Her link-up play lifted the whole team, and she connected well with everyone on the pitch.

Overall, it was a super game and a fantastic team performance. Player of the Week was deservedly awarded to Stevie, whose second-half performance was particularly impressive. Her strength, composure and teamwork made a huge difference and summed up the spirit of the entire team.
