From the first whistle, there was a calm confidence about our match today. Everyone was grateful for Martha taking on the role of goalkeeper – a safe pair of hands who dealt with everything thrown her way. She pulled off some excellent saves and distributed the ball intelligently, setting the tone for attacks with confident throws and well-struck kicks.
In defence, Stevie and Florence worked tirelessly. Stevie had a really strong game, continuing to grow in her positional awareness and showing how much she is learning each week. She was strong on the ball, kept her passes simple and effective, and wasn’t afraid to step forward when the opportunity came.
Alongside her, Florence showed what a classy player she is becoming. Comfortable at her feet and confident in possession, she dribbled well out of tight spaces and is coming along brilliantly. Her technique stood out, especially when she found her range and began playing the ball forward with purpose.
Just ahead of them, Ava provided a composed link into midfield. She looked assured on the ball, using a lovely sidestep to glide past opponents and drive forward. Time and again, she picked out clever passes to connect defence and midfield, keeping play flowing.
Poppy D in the middle was everywhere – up, down, and everywhere in between like a yo-yo. She ran herself into the ground, constantly pressing, making tackles, and unleashing several shots that kept the opposition keeper busy all game. On the left, Annabella put in a determined performance, tracking back when needed and then pushing forward with real intent. She wasn’t afraid to get stuck in and battled hard throughout.
Up front, Millie led the line with great energy. She dropped back into midfield at times to help out, showing real team spirit, and had a couple of good efforts on goal. When Poppy J came on as a substitute, she was strong at holding the ball up, she brought others into play and laid it off cleverly to give teammates a chance to strike. She also had a powerful shot of her own that tested the keeper.
The second half followed much the same pattern. Martha continued to impress in goal with more assured saves. Stevie and Florence kept battling in defence, putting in important tackles and showing how well they listened to the coaches’ instructions.
Further forward, Annabella, Ava, Poppy D, Poppy J and Millie all maintained their high standards, working hard for one another and playing with confidence.
Player of the Week deservedly went to Poppy D. She truly put herself about today, listened carefully to the coaches, and ran relentlessly from start to finish. Her tackling, movement, and willingness to take shots made a huge difference. It was a performance full of energy and commitment – a brilliant example for the whole team. Well done!
