U13 Mainoo League - Boys
New Mills Juniors 2
Bollington United Mavericks 4
The scoreline definitely doesn’t tell the story of this game. Both teams started fast, the Millers defence were excellent in the first half, standing firm and frustrating every Bollington attack.
Letting the midfield push forward and it was that boy Remo controlling a perfectly placed pass before lobbing the keeper from distance to give the Millers a 1 nil lead midway through the first half.
The Millers added a second only for it to be deemed not a goal after complaints opposition coaches and supporters saying what they had seen from twice the distance of the referee.
With the Millers a little shell shocked by the decision of no goal, Bollington took advantage and got a scrappy goal just before half time.
Bollington started fast in the second half and added two quick goals before the Millers got their hunger back and went all out attack and up the tempo of the match.
The Millers pressure was rewarded with an own goal by Bollington with the ball been deflected in from a Millers cross.
The pressure continued and the Millers had two shots hitting the crossbar, one hitting the post, another goal being disallowed after some loud encouragement from the opposition coaches and parents the referee changed his mind again and disallowed the goal.
In a very frustrating game, the boys can be proud of the efforts today, they kept going until the end and it took some very late challenges to stop their attacks. Another day, we might have had a different result but that’s football.
The ‘brainmat’ man of the match goes to Leyton, well done on a great performance.
