Match Report NMJFC U8s Sat 24 Oct 2026 New Mills Juniors U8 -v- Juno United U8 Tigers
Storm Boelo wasn't kind for the U8's fixture. The heaven's were open and pouring, accompanied by a driving wind. Respect to all the teams who played today...👍🏻
With school breaking for half term, NMJFC U8's were lucky to have 7 available for this fixture.
We knew Juno Utd Tigers were a very strong team in this league, so despite the torrential weather the U8's would have to be at their best.
With the weather as it was, constant changes were necessary to make sure the boys kept moving & involved in the game.
The game started with what felt like a monsoon, but the two teams were going toe to toe.
Henry in goal, and bossing his area, sometimes coming out to meet the oncoming ball before it arrived and pumping it back into the Juno half.
If it wasn’t for the Juno keeper, NMJFC U8's could have had half a dozen goals. One strike, after a great break, finally beating the keeper, but hitting one post then the other, and in the wet conditions, sat on the line for the keeper to gather.
The 2nd half started with Seb in goal, so Henry outfield.
Seb handling the ball with confidence, and his distribution was outstanding.
NMJFC U8's played as they had in the 1st half. One attack towards gathered, then away to theirs.
The number of NMJFC corners were being blurred by the rain as the final whistle blew for the end of a game with probably one of the strongest teams in the league.
NMJFC U8's today:
Alfred:
Started on the touchline but he was revved up when he was on the field. Always troubled the opposition, in defensive tackles, but today driving forward. A force.
Angus:
This boy is so tenacious, and today he was at his best. "Watch that boy", he did. Not only that boy, but any that came into our half. Spot on Angus!
Henry:
Great performance in goal in the 1st half, really solidified the team infront of him.
Second half, pushed forward and troubled the opposition throughout.Â
Louie:
Mr versatile was crucial for this game. When he didn't win the ball, he hunted it down until it was out of danger. Played in three positions & was a menace throughout.
Ollie:
This boy worked tirelessly throughout.
The drive forward in both halves, but his tracking back to support the defence was outstanding.
So unlucky not to be on the score sheet today.
Seb:
What a shift in the 1st half! Constant trouble to Juno. He had their defence in tangles throughout.
2nd half in goal, and whilst he's missed outfield, what a safe pair of hands we have in goal, and the distributional was fabulous.
Tobias:
So often played in defence, because he's good at it. Today pushed further forward and looked comfortable. Perhaps this is why he got on the scoresheet. Great performance!
The U8's were missing two key players in this game.
The 7 present put in a great performance against one of the strongest teams in this league, in challenging conditions.
Resilience runs through this team, and whilst PofM could have been given to any one of them, it was given to Alfred, for:
Tracked every ball, tackled, head up, passed.
The turn with the ball, losing the defender and forcing forward sealed it.
Well done Alfred...🏅
We go again next week NMJFC U8's...⚽️🟡⚫️🟡⚫️⚽️
