Match report NMJFC U9 Hawks v Whaley Bridge - 26/03/23
A bright And crisp Sunday once again at Glossopdale in the High Peak Junior Football League had the Hawks paired against Whaley Bridge.
Kian started for The Millers in goal today and provided a safe pair of hands when called upon.
Joe and Shea were our two centre backs and as usual, gave all of their efforts protecting our goal.
Liam held a defensive midfield position and created the link moving us out from the back and creating chances going forward for our wingers Ella and Bradley who both gave striker Harley options either side of him.
The scoring was opened half way into the first half as a beautiful ball in by Harley from a corner was rifled in on the volley by captain Liam to give The Hawks a lead which they deserved.
Whaley would not allow that to dampen their moods and a long range effort that took an awkward bounce, hit the net just over the out stretched hands of Kian. It was all square again and this appeared to waken us up a little as we pressed and pressed at the Whaley defence. Our opponents quickly found another goal after a loose ball was picked up near the New Mills goal and they calmly slotted home from close range.
On the back foot yet again, this team would not let the score line effect them in a negative way. Our efforts were rewarded as a square ball in the box from Harley found Ella who thundered it in at the back post! It was such a great moment seeing her score today as she doesn’t often get on the score sheet. Her efforts in the centre of midfield and never give in attitude to win back loose balls are usually the starting points for our attacks, so to see her drive forward and support all the way as we chased for an equaliser was incredible in itself - the goal was the icing on the cake!
All square as the half time whistle came, The Millers knew they still had work to do.
James replaced Kian in goal and Ronan replaced Shea as we switched the formation around for the second half - Bradley, Joe and Liam playing as a back 3 with Ronan, Harley and Kian or attacking forwards.
We started the second half with fire and determination, this was soon rewarded with another right-footed crisp finish from Ronan who was a constant threat down the left wing with his pace and glorious footwork on the ball.
What was really impressive to me in the second half was how this team worked as unit to make it hard for Whaley - they ran to track back, showed great courage to cover in behind the defence.
The cherry on top was sealed with another dazzling display of quick feet, lightening pace and unmatched desire from midfield maestro Ronan who etched his name on the score sheet yet again.
2 players of the match today: Ella 🏆 Ronan 🏆
This team have become a real force to be reckoned with and continuously remind us all of how a team should perform together as a unit.
Proud just does not cut it. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
