Match Report NMJFC U9s Bees V Hornets- 21/01/23

A rather windy day at Glossopdale as storm Isha came calling. We had another local derby against our training partners and friends, but for 40 minutes they were the opposition….The Hornets.

Due to prior engagements for William and David failing a late fitness test (get well soon David) we could only field 6 players. A coaches ‘meeting’ the evening before over a lemonade or two, agreed we would play 6v6 (rather than the usual 7v7)

We started with Stanley safe hands in goal, Rocco and Leo playing behind a 3 of Millie, Brooke and Charlie.

Leo was captain for the day went up for the kick off rights. As you’d expect, like any Manchester derby … at kick off it was 100 mph from both teams, however the Bees settled quickly and were playing their calm passing game.  Some great passing and moving between them …. The Bees have improved so much this season 👍🏻

We were knocking it from defence through to Millie, Brooke and Charlie who were trying to break through the wall of ‘Finley’ in the Hornets defence.  This was an amazing game to watch and be a part of.

Each time the Hornets ploughed forward, Leo and Rocco were there to get stuck in and break things down. If they didn’t get the first tackle, they both chased and made sure the door was closed for a Hornets attack.  It was great to hear Brooke and Leo shouting to their teammates and giving information 👏🏻

Stanley was busy in goal and made some great stops, after one point blank save, Stanley got a kick to the thigh…. but soldiered on 👍🏻 made of steel is our Stan !

At half time, the Bees were giving as good as they got.

Second half and the Hornets started to get the upper hand (having the advantage of being able to swap a couple of players and bring on fresh legs)  the Bees kept going… Leo tested Fenn in the Hornets goal with a long range effort, Brooke and Millie were running and passing, Charlie was battling back and going toe to toe with our opponents.  Brooke was through….about to shoot but Albie ‘Billy Whizz’ caught up and made a crucial tackle.

At the final whistle, we all shook hands, everyone was smiling and it was clear to see everyone enjoyed the game (parents and coaches of both sides)

Rick and I were so proud of the Bees today. Their passing was fantastic, their enthusiasm is never ending and their desire to play is unstoppable.

Thanks to Phil and Joe for going ahead with 6v6.  We will most definitely go again next week 👍🏻

This week, the coaches asked the team who should be player of the week… and they unanimously said ‘the team’ … which makes Rick and I so proud, they all recognised everyone’s contribution.
