Match Report NMJFC U9s Hornets v Wasps - 05/11/23

Match Report NMJFC U9s Hornets v Wasps - 05/11/23

This weekend we faced our training pals & buddies, The Wasps 💛🖤

The Wasps are an ever evolving team since adding an extra side to this age-group last year. Now they have a couple of fantastic new coaches who have been getting the best out of a fine blend of our NMJFC Kids, some of who have been playing for the club since U5’s & U6’s, some that have just started their second season & most impressively, a couple of them that are only months into their football journey. Once this team becomes more familiar, they are going to be a real force to be reckoned with.

This brings me onto The Hornets, who are ‘THAT’ team who have played together for a very long time. The original U7’s team were divided into two teams (By The Club Liaison Officer) and were called New Mills Blacks & New Mills Yellows. All of those kids developed at their own speed / level. The ‘Core’ of the Blacks was Finley, Frankie, Albie, Ollie M & Oliver B. Ronan was playing with the Yellows but switched over as the teams were split to create three sides. Next season, Oliver L joined as all 3 teams added players to bolster their teams. This season, we have added Fenn, who has been training with this age-group from the very start but was just not quite ready before -

Now he is!

This squad of ours is a collective, a team, a group of 8 players from 5 different schools and they have bonded incredibly! It also helps when the parents enjoy spending time together on a social-level and who knows what influence that has had on the kids?! What we do know, is whenever asked to enter into a tournament, a midweek friendly or an extra Saturday training session, nobody fails to turn-up. It’s the same with sleep-overs, parties and Saturday’s watching New Mills FC at 3pm at Church Lane. They all dream of pulling on that amber shirt and representing their local team.

In regards to the match, The Hornets were on form. They played some incredible passing football and showed a confidence and awareness of eachother that is simply sublime! The dummies, the short corners, the communication on-the-field…. it is unbelievable at times. Loads of effort & an abundance of passion was on show for everybody to see. POTM went to a Non-Goalscorer. Instead, we acknowledged the fact that as a team, The Hornets would rather play the pass that makes the goal…… Nobody did that more than Oliver B, our POTM. Outstanding performance and he displayed an understanding that’s the ‘bigger goal' !!

⚽️🖤💛⚽️
