Match report NMJFC Under 12s - 08/01/23
v Inter Cheadle
Happy New Year’ the lads seemed to say with the game today. No blue Sunday today. The rain held off, soft underfoot with only the slightest of kick off delay resulting from a tardy ref!
Today's opponents were Inter Cheadle in the cup. Already this season has seen 2 very close games between the 2 and today was no different.
The first half was a tense affair with a number of opportunities spurned by the home team and 2 great saves from Dillan. Was it to be one of those days? 0-0 at half time.
The second half started the same, great goalkeeping from Inter Cheadles number 1 keeping it all level.
Set pieces were looking a threat from New Mills with Lewis’s delivery causing all sorts of chaos in the box, and it proved the way to break the deadlock. Joel pounced when all around were caught staring into headlights, no more than deserved by team and player.
Shortly after a great breakaway and finish from Inter Cheadle leveled it up. Time was running away for both teams, could either team find a way through to avoid the dreaded penalties?
Yes! Another corner and a superb volley in the box from Bogdan put the Millers back in front. Then a minute or 2 later, Carey made it 3 tapping in after a sublime half volley by Toby which the keeper did well to save.
The final whistle went a few minutes later and a victory for the home team and through to the next round.
Well played both teams today. More important than the result was some fanatic passing football and great desire from the Millers, with all the team providing something to make the whole greater than the sum of the individual parts.
Man of the match today went to Joel who capped off a fine, determined display with the break through goal; the epitome of leading by example. Well done Joel, well done the whole team
