New Mills u12 v Richmond Rovers Maroons u12
After a heavy defeat to Whaley last week the Millers were looking to get back to winning ways this morning as they welcomed Richmond to the Rec.
First half got underway and the Millers were straight on the attack, forcing the Richmond keeper into action who made some quality saves early on. Millers dominated the ball for first 10 mins but Richmond were looking to catch us on the counter attack, we felt we had to capitalise on all the possession we had, and Archie soon broke the deadlock to put us ahead. Alfie added a 2nd not long after, to put us comfortably ahead. Richmond came back into the game having a shot rebound off the bar and bounce off the line, luckily the ball was cleared but they came back again and managed to grab a goal back.
2-1 and the game got a bit scrappy until Jom added a 3rd to give us that cushion again.
2nd half kicked off, and the game was really open, New Mills played some quality football through the game, passing and moving, the defence worked there socks off through the game and Richmond seemed to be losing their way a little. They eventually scored again making it 3-2 with 15 mins to go, we were in for a great watch. Both teams battled for the next goal and with a couple of tweaks to the Millers system and substitutes, Archie and Alfie were having a lot of the ball up top but couldn’t quite break Richmond down as we went into the last 5 mins, eventually they got though the Richmond defence and Alfie slotted the ball into the bottom corner to give the Millers another goal and seal the 3 points. This gave the home crowd something to shout about. Final score 4-2
Class performance from the team as everybody gave their all and dug in when under pressure. Working as a team with plenty of talking and encouraging.
Would like to thank all parents who watch week in, week out, and support the team, always getting behind them. It definately gives us that big extra 👍🏻
