The U10’s returned after a couple of weeks without a game for their second clash against Hazel Grove Jets in the Vernon Trophy group stages.
New Mills were without key defenders Pavak and Rhys, putting extra responsibility on Teddy and Charlie T at the back.
The game started brightly, with New Mills playing some excellent passing football and creating early chances. The breakthrough came through sheer determination from Dylan, who refused to give up and worked the ball across the face of goal for Alfie to finish confidently.
Hazel Grove responded well, capitalising on a corner with an unmarked player.
Despite playing some great football, New Mills went into the break knowing they just needed that extra belief to push on and win the game.
The second half saw both teams raise their intensity, battling hard and making adjustments. Stanley took on a new role in central midfield and made an immediate impact—spreading the play well and, when given space, producing a superb strike into the top corner.
Dylan then added a third, finishing off a well-worked move from Stanley, mirroring Alfie’s first-half goal.
It wasn’t all one-way traffic, and New Mills had to dig deep defensively, showing resilience and determination right until the final whistle.
Player of the Match was awarded to Charlie T, who delivered an outstanding performance. His energy never dropped, and his tackling and reading of the game were exceptional throughout.
