Match report NMJFC Under 12s girls - 04/03/23

Wilmslow Vs New Mills u12 Girls

Today we had a special mascot, a smiling Harry Budd joined us on the sidelines and celebrated our goals with us. Keep going Harry lad !

Currently having a run of bad luck against some very good teams in this top division & not having a resident keeper is affecting our game, to what formation we play & who plays where to support. Sometimes as coaches, you’re working on the psychological side rather than technical or practical and it’s tough to manage!

Off the back of that, Nieve volunteered at training to be our Number one for the day & I know behind the scenes she squeezed in some extra training to help her team.  Her attitude and resilience were spot on, made numerous good saves and fantastic goal kicks, & communicated her needs as a keeper to the team.  Nieve showed skills today that will lead her through life. Massive well done.

Starting 4 at the back to support as Nieve is one of our usual defenders, Freya B came on for Scarlett at the back and we talked about using her pace and skill down the wing which worked well in that first half.  Scarlett asked us coaches for a go on the wing & did a good job of getting stuck in. They had a great run with the ball, again we have to listen to what they want as a player!

Jaz showed perseverance on left wing & never gave up in those 1v1 situations, forcing players to make a back pass and winning the ball, unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions today, pushed through defenders but the Wilmslow side covered well.

Keep playing it, it’s so good to watch!

Over on the far side Nayia played a blinding game today, dropping back with speed and some nice foot work for a few attempts on goal, stepped up to take a penalty in second half but denied by the keeper, a tough one to take as a player!

A highlight of the game today was to see the options given when Freya L worked the ball down the wing, Ava, Ellie, Jaz & Nayia holding positions through midfield and screaming for the pass.  Nice teamwork.

Again, Jay in centre back for her strength & pace, helping the newer players understand their role and covering the width of the field.

2 sweet goals for Freya L, another for Freya B but we were pipped at the post by Wilmslow!

Let’s not forget there’s some nice football being played and some of these girls are playing up a level AND every day is a learning day, including for us volunteers.

Hard work and seizing opportunities and some skilful play today our deserved POTM went to Number 10 Nayia & she only fell over twice (in team joke).🤣
