New Mills Juniors U13 v Richmond Rovers Clarets
Wet and windy start for the U13s as they travelled away to take on Richmond Rovers for the second time within the same month.
Surprisingly upon arrival the game was called on so big thanks to all the guys down at Richmond in prepping the pitch in these conditions to enable the kids to play.
It was a funny old game today, and with a bare 11 New Mills needed to all put in a good shift to secure the result.
With a much improved Richmond side pressing from the off it wasn't going to be as easy for New Mills as their last result against this team suggested.
7 minutes in NMJFC opened the scoring with a lovely cross into the box from the right where our left footed winger Liam was waiting to slot it in.
Richmond responded and New Mills soon found themselves 2-1 down after 15 minutes of play.
Scoring two more before the half time whistle blew, a tap in from Jack, topping and cracking header from our centre back Josh, the away team were lucky to be ahead as the home side clearly had played the better football for the first half of the match.
A scrappy game where NMJFC just didn't play the football we all know they can.
However saying that another 3 goals followed in the second half.
Firstly a penalty was awarded and Theo stepped up and calmly slotted it into the back of the net. Next Jack Toft used the outside of his foot to tap one in past the keeper and finally 2 minutes before the final whistle blew and after a scramble infront of goal Jack Bull managed to take the game to a 6-2 win for the mini millers.
Man of the match went to one of our newer players for this season Henry for playing out of position and staying calm and composed on the ball at the back earnt him todays title...well done!🏆
