Match report NMJFC Under 14s - 3rd Oct 21

Match Day 3 saw New Mills take on Bollington Braves @ the Rec, home of football. Manager Steve Longshaw had the pleasure of naming the same 11 as the week before.

The Millers started the game with an early goal with William being creator and finisher. Pressing the ball high on the right flank William cut in and beat his man, he then rolled the ball into the bottom right and corner from the edge of the box…1-0.

The Millers kept the ball well and played some truly magnificent football. Getting there just rewards when Devah played a pinpoint ball for Max who held off his defender brilliantly, he then dispatched a thunderous shot into the corner of the net from just inside the area to put New Mills 2-0 up with 15 minutes on the clock.

Tom, Joe and Declan were the real creators in the centre of the park, breaking up play and pinging balls from left to right bringing the wingers and forwards into play. Harvey, Max and Devah linked up superbly for the third goal. Teasing the Bollington defence, Harvey and Max played several one twos. Harvey then unleashed a delicious through ball for Devah to open his account for this season. Great football…3-0.

Just before the half-time whistle Harvey was provider again, he slipped a ball into Max who round the keeper and put the ball into the empty net. 4-0 Halftime.

Bollington had a good go at the start of the second-half however, Logan, Nate, Ruben & Gene wasn’t prepared to let them in. substitute Matheus injected some pace on the wing with Luca working tirelessly up top.

Despite being 4-0 up New Mills looked complacent at times, with what seemed like one or six wanting to get on the scoresheet shooting from ridiculous angles.

There was an element of that for the fifth goal of the game too. Confident from setting up 2 goals already, Harvey ran onto a bouncing ball around 35 yards from goal and hit a beautiful volley which sailed over the keeper and into the back of the net to make it 5-0 to the home side.

As the game grew the Millers applied more pressure and they eventually got what they was looking for. Harvey took a corner and played a one,two with the defender (who was guarding the front post) as the ball came back out to him he side footed the ball with some power. The ball hit the underside of the crossbar to make it 6-0.

With the final whistle looming and a much deserved clean sheet insight, one of the Millers defenders was caught out of position and Bollington saw their opportunity. As the winger beat his man he squared a lovely ball to the striker who tapped the ball past Logan for a consolation goal. Full-time whistle 6-1 to the Millers, keeping up their 100% record.

Thank you to both sets of supporters and thanks to all the parents that help setting up the pitch.
