Match report NMJFC Under 15s - 25/09/22
An early kick off for the boys and for the first few minutes we could tell. Richmond put together a spell of fast passing through New Mills team and we unfortunately conceded early 0-1. This woke the team up and spurred them on for a fight back. They created a strong line at the back with Luke coaching the newer members in the team and working on the formation.
After 10 minutes, Richmond quickly came again hoping to build on their lead and were gifted with a one on one with their striker and Logan in nets. Gene put in an excellent recovery run back to intercept the ball well.
Richmond soon came again and produced some fast play from a goal kick up the pitch, despite Genes shouts to get back another goal conceded to make it 0-2.
New Mills continued to show fight and spirit in the first half and were rewarded with a free kick just in their own half, Luke’s kick went unchallenged from Richmond and we got a goal back just before half time.
Still in the game at this point there was a change in players and formation at half time and the team were sent back out to try and get one back.
Unfortunately almost straight from kick off Richmond scored again 1-3 and the momentum from the half time talk was lost. Richmond kept coming and despite some great blocks / stops from Joe and Logan, Richmond fired another one in from outside the box 1-4.
A altercation saw Richmond reduced to 10 men but they were still hungry for the game.
New Mills got a free kick soon after and a lovely ball from their own half over to Ruben on the wing, delivered into the box in a perfect position. Despite a scrappy encounter in the box the ball eventually went in the net from Max to make it 2-4.
Late in the second half a Richmond player was brought down in the box and a penalty awarded giving a final result of 2-5 to Richmond.
Despite the result there were positive some lovely through balls from our defenders and midfield. Some nifty link up play for Tom and Declan and great forward runs from Byron and Mateus. The team produced some excellent link up play to create chances for Harvey, Luca and Max.
We go again next week, and look to get back to winning ways.
Credit to Richmond for their performance today, fast paced, enthusiastic and a clear desire for a result, we look forward to playing them again later in the season!
