Match report NMJFC Under 18s - 03/04/22

New Mills U18’s 5-3 Richmond Rovers Blues U18’s

Nathan Lees was the star of the show as The Millers defeated their feisty opponents comfortably in a fiery encounter at Church Lane, home of New Mills FC.

With several players unavailable once again it was a skeleton squad for The Millers but they were soon in control of the game, creating chance after chance before they finally took the lead on 15 minutes, Lees slotting home after being fed by Frank Woodrow.

The visitors equalised with their first attempt on 35 minutes before Woodrow restored his sides advantage just before the interval, slotting home from a Jake Robinson through ball.

The visitors equalised with a penalty on 56 minutes but soon after were reduced to ten men, a player shown a straight red card for a crude challenge on Harvey Smith and that was to prove crucial. Almost immediately Lees slotted in his second of the game and then moments later Smith played in Joel Boyes to make it four. Another dreadful challenge off the ball saw Richmond reduced to nine men, and then one of their substitutes was shown a red card as they lost control of their emotions. Blues did manage to pull a goal back late on; but it was to prove worthless as in injury time Woodrow was played in and he raced half the length of the pitch to tap into an empty net with the goalkeeper up for a corner.

Player of the Match: Nathan Lees.

Kai Harman was also superb at right back; with AJ Theyer and Alex Duncan also performing solidly in central defence
