It was our second game of the new group stage and New Mills Blacks were looking to build on the excellent start last weekend.
We were up against Chapel Town Blues who we know all about and we ready to get stuck in as we had prepared for another tough encounter.
No surprises that is exactly what happened. This Chapel team are big group and they do like to pass the ball around and we struggled to really get into the game in the first half. Some great defending from Jacob, Finley, Stanley, Sam & Jessica kept our goal safe until just before Half-Time when Chapel’s pressure paid off and they took the lead.
NM Blacks took a little while to get going in the first-half but second half was a different story. We came out fighting and rather than being in awe of our opposition, we remembered how good we are and we can also pass the ball around and take people on!
Chapel struck next and we had tough task ahead now to get something from the game. This was the real trigger that got NM Blacks going and seen our best period of the game. We pushed forward and started to create some good opportunities in front Chapel goal.
Then it was Finley’s moment of glory…… Frankie’s corner got cleared and Finley was covering but instead of playing the ball out wide he decided to shoot from nearly 20 yards out. Boom 💥⚽️ – The sweetest of strikes, it smashed into the top corner!
NM Blacks managed another when Frankie⚽️ scored a great goal too. We didn’t give up and fought to the very end but another couple of Chapel goals put this game to bed.
A great performance by everybody involved and although there was disappointed faces at the end, we will learn and come back even stronger.
A special mention to Ollie B & Jacob for taking a half each in goal.
