Match report NMJFC Under 8s Hornets - 25/09/22

After a tremendous performance last week we were keen to see if The Hornets could continue to play the incredible passing game they have developed over the summer and apply it against a strong Hayfield side we know all too well. It was actually Hayfield we played our very first game against in our first ever season at Glossopdale last year (on this day last year). The start of the footballing journey for these kids and yesterday they showed how far they have all come.

Individually – every single player has come on so much and with the addition of a couple of new players to the squad this season, we seem to have found the right balance.

The Hornets came flying out of ‘The Nest’ and with Oliver L offering to take the gloves first half, he created a steady foundation to build on. Like the modern Sweeper / Keepers Oliver L was picking out passes and before we knew it the ball was going wide & crosses were coming in and the end result was there for all to see!

At the back we were solid. Frankie & Finley go together like Fish & Chips. They are tough in their tackles and never give up. Chasing back and winning possession is now standard for this pair. What they have both added to their game is the accuracy of their distribution. Some incredible passes and long balls out wide meant the pressure was straight back on our opposition. Well done Rio & Vidic! Not everyone wants to play in defence but you two make it look cool.

Oliver B was celebrating his birthday weekend but the late nights parties didn’t seem to effect his performance as he was having a tremendous game. Chasing down defenders and kicking the ball into safety. Best of all he was then bringing the ball forwards and passing in to the right spaces so we could capitalise on our tremendous start to the match. His greatest birthday gift was the right to take home the match ball! Well done Oliver B on an absolutely outstanding performance – The best I’ve ever seen from you.

Second Half - Frankie took the gloves and The Hornets were in the mood. Some absolutely delightful passages of play ending in more success. The Hornets were buzzing now and the emphasis was on attacking and creating.

Ronan & Albie epitomised this with some fantastic wide play. The result was both of them managing to score and you deserved that. With Jessica up top the team pressed and Ollie M did what Ollie M now does. He read the play beautifully and slotted the ball home. You're in great form Ollie M, keep it up.

There were some tough tackles going in as the second-half went on and our players took a few knocks so changes we forced which disrupted the teams play. Possibly the greatest moment of the match came from our parents & families that were attending the game. You don’t hear much when you’re in ‘The Cage’ but nobody could have missed the cheering & support as Jessica attacked. It was absolutely fantastic and shows the unity in this group. That goal is coming Jessica – keep up the great performances.

Outstanding again Hornets. Next Up is New Mills Bee’s – Derby Day at Glossopdale before City & United go head-to-head later in the afternoon. Obviously Albie & Oliver L are starting on the bench for being City fans!! 😂
