After much anticipation the Wasp’s first ever match arrived on a bright morning against Chinley U8 Greens.
Before the game a one-minute silence for the passing of Queen Elizabeth II was impeccably observed by both teams. Captain for the day Sam then dealt with pre-match duties, and it was straight into the action! The first half was highly competitive - at times only Dylan’s excellent goalkeeping kept the Wasps level. With the tension building Harry was substituted on for his league debut and, when James and Brooke combined again to provide him with the ball in space, he promptly took the chance to break the deadlock - great goal Harry!
The lead didn’t last long with Chinley deservedly equalising and the half finishing level again. Phew!
The Wasps teamwork was notable throughout and started to pay off right from the start of the second half. Chinley struggled to get out of their half, and if they did second-half goalkeeper Harry was concentrating and ready – keeping a clean-sheet to add to his goal!
The pressure caused by the Wasps teamwork paid off with two goals for Dylan! And two goals for Brooke!
It could have been more with Sam’s shot being tipped just outside of the post.
Everyone was brilliant, always working hard for their teammates. Six ‘NMJFC Player of the Match’ trophies could easily have been awarded! Ultimately it was received by Jacob, whose calm performance as defensive rock provided the foundation for the whole team.
A performance to make everyone proud to start the season – well done Wasps!
