Match report NMJFC Under 9s Hawks - 12/02/23

NMJFC U9 Hawks v Chinley

The Hawks went into todays fixture at a Glossopdale is good spirits and on the back of a recent string of fine performances. They certainly didn’t disappoint today as they continued their hot streak, providing lots of moments to celebrate for our loyal supporters on the sidelines.

The first half was a hard fought encounter. Some great playing out from the back by our captain Liam, created a handful of openings to attack the Chinley goal but luck wasn’t on our side as Harley struck the post twice from some great counters.

Taking the number 1 jersey for the first half was Kian, who provided some sensational saves to deny Chinley from scoring and keep the game a close match.

With Shea and Liam at the back and Ella providing support from a central midfield position, Chinley hard their work cut out for them to get through on goal. After a scramble from a loose ball in the box, our opponents took their chance just before the half time whistle.

The Hawks were disheartened as they came off the pitch but knew they had the desire and belief to change the game in the second half.

That’s exactly what they did. Quicker passing into wide positions meant we had opportunities to counter them at pace - Kian on the right and Ronan on the left caused countless problems for Chinley right from the whistle - Kian smashing home from a loose ball across the box.

This sparked a fire for The Millers as Bradley quickly followed up with a beautiful finish straight down the middle and into the back of the net. More goals followed courtesy of Liam and Ronan.

Tireless work from Ella, Joe and Shea kept Chinley away from our goal and James was a safe pair of hands for the second half as our goalkeeper.

A late penalty awarded to Chinley saw them claw one back. The Hawks did well today and showed class, resilience and absolute desire when they had their backs against the wall.

One of the best performances and displays of character I’ve seen from this team since day 1. Couldn’t be prouder of them all.

Man of the match: Liam 🏆 a true leader from the back and very often the starting point for our attacking plays as well as being a brick wall defender.

Well done Hawks 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
