Today the U10s were up against Bollington United Nancy Blues at Stockport Sports Village.
For the first time this season, we had a full squad and also welcomed Ethan to the matchday team. James, our usual keeper, very kindly volunteered to sit this one out, with Alfie stepping up to cover in goal.
Before kick-off, the boys joined in a minute’s silence to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Once the game began, it was the Nancy Blues who settled quickest, passing well and creating the early chances.
Stanley found some joy making runs down the left and delivered a brilliant ball to the back post for Jackson to open the scoring.
It remained a tight contest, but our defensive trio, Charlie T, Rhys, and Pavak were rock solid, clearing away any danger and keeping the team organised.
Stanley came close to adding another with a thunderous free kick that crashed against the post.
The game started to get more physical, with the Millers showing the Nancy Blues a bit too much respect at times. The turning point came just before half-time when Teddy chased down a long ball and gave the opposition a taste of their own medicine with some determined play.
After a focused team talk at half time, the Millers came out firing, taking control and playing some excellent football.
Further goals followed from Dylan, Stanley, and Teddy — the latter finishing off a lovely move assisted by Stanley.
Alfie was outstanding on his debut in goal and was unlucky to miss out on a clean sheet after the Nancy Blues grabbed a late consolation.
It was a fantastic team performance all round, with every player contributing to a great game of football.
Player of the Match: Teddy — for sparking our attack, scoring a lovely goal, and coming close to adding two more.
