New Mills Bees U9 vs Buxton Juniors Athletic - 10/12/23

New Mills Bees U9 vs Buxton Juniors Athletic - 10/12/23

Despite the later kick off time and lack of rain, the icy breeze blowing through Glossopdale made it feel a lot colder than it was.  We were missing Rocco today (semi-international duty….. in Bristol) so we drafted in Frankie C from the Wasps to provide defensive coverage.

Our captain for the day was Brooke, who was close to failing a late fitness test due to feeling unwell, but some toast and Calpol seemed to do the trick 👍🏻

We lined up with Stanley ‘safe hands’ in goal, Will and David in defence, Millie, Brooke and Leo across the middle and Charlie playing as striker.

The first half kicked off and it was a battle from the word go. The Bees were trying to settle and play their close passing game but it wasn’t quite coming off. We got caught out and Buxton took advantage of our lack of finding a Bee when passing together.

David and Will were tracking the Buxton attackers and stopping them when they could.  Quick change and Frankie C came on and made an impact, shoring up the defence 👍🏻

A better move from the Bees saw some good forward passing, Millie.. who can unlock any defence and play a killer through ball, found Leo who hit home ⚽️ for the Bees… however things still weren’t clicking.

Half time team talk, we flipped it around, so we asked the players where they thought we needed to improve… and every player put their finger on what we needed to do…. Passing, talking, finding space, tackling….This team know what they need to do !

Second half and it’s a much improved Bees … yet again David and Will were making crucial interceptions, Will’s now got more confidence on the ball and it’s great to see him moving forward and looking for a good pass.  David is settling and learning in each game we play 👍🏻

A Bees attack with a good run from Charlie who couldn’t quite get through the defence (which was the story of his afternoon) saw the ball come firing out of the Buxton defence… Leo who was quite far out, took the ball on the half volley and hit a worldie of a goal into the top right hand corner.  I think the coaches were impressed at the finesse and intention behind it ⚽️

The Bees were more into the game now and everyone stepped things up a notch. We kept pressing and playing our passing game. The Bees won a corner which was floated over into the box and after a few ricochets, Brooke poked it into the net ⚽️  another Bees attack saw Leo break through the Buxton defence with his speed and try to slide the ball through to Millie who was chasing on the opposite wing…... the ball hit the post and went agonisingly wide. Great team play from these mini Millers.

This was another super competitive game from the Bees. Every single 🐝 should be proud.  Throughout the game, Stan was yet again ‘the man’ … a tenacious little keeper doing a fantastic job!  Pulling out some excellent saves 🙌🏻

This week Leo was the player of the week. In all fairness it could’ve been all of them, they all ran and ran. Leo ran his legs off, was a team player, passed and tracked back and didn’t stop trying.

We go again next week against our friends and rivals The Wasps💙 👍🏻

Special thank you to David’s mum, Valeriia for the cupcakes. They were very delicious and much appreciated 👍🏻

⚽️🖤💛⚽️
