NMJU11 – Match Report - 5th September 2026

Today saw the boys play their first match as U11s, and it was great to finally get the new season underway.

We welcomed Theo and Hugo to the squad for their first game, while Dylan and Alfie were unavailable for today’s fixture against High Lane Athletico.

The starting line-up saw James in goal, Teddy and Rhys in defence, Stanley, Theo and Hugo in midfield, and Charlie leading the line.

The game began at a steady pace as the boys found their feet, with a few rusty legs understandable after the summer break. Despite that, New Mills started to show some really encouraging passing and movement, creating opportunities with Charlie going close on a couple of occasions.

Jackson came on and added some extra pace and energy, making High Lane work hard, while Pavak returned to the defence and immediately made an impact with a strong and composed performance at the back.

It was a demanding game for the defence, with both Rhys and Pavak picking up injuries that unfortunately kept them out for the remainder of the match.  Despite that, the boys continued to show plenty of determination and commitment.

Stanley then produced a fantastic moment of individual determination, driving forward and finishing off a wonderful solo effort to open his account for the new season.

Charlie soon followed, reacting quickest to a rebound and showing great instincts to find the back of the net.

Player of the Match went to James, who was outstanding in goal. His performance earned plenty of praise and applause, including from the opposition coaches.

A challenging but really valuable first outing for our new U11s. There is plenty to work on over the coming weeks, but with some hard work on the training pitch, we all know this group has plenty of potential.

Well done boys — onwards and upwards !
