Match report NMJFC NMJFC U9 Hawks v NMJFC Falcons - 19/03/23
A second Derby match in 2 weeks awaited the New Mills fans at Glossopdale again today. It definitely didn’t disappoint! A minutes applause was observed from all teams prior to kick off, in tribute to New Mills Juniors Founder Mike Taylor who sadly passed away recently.
A late shuffle of our formation and tactics saw Harley take up goalkeeping duties again for the first half as our usual keeper James was absent due to illness.
Keeping our outfield shape the same as our last fixture, we had our captain Liam leading from the front as our striking option, with Bradley and Kian either side as our attacking wingers. The back line and brick wall defence of Joe, Ella and Shea provided us with solid foundations to begin the game.
Lots of end to end football was on display in the first half with both teams having their fair share of chances - full concentration needed as we looked to keep the Falcons out and look to switch our defending into attacking play. Joe worked tirelessly at the back, bolstered by Shea and Ella.
Some solid saves from Harley along with some great distribution.
More attacks from the Falcons saw us up against it yet again with our backs against the wall, but Liam showed us what he’s got in his locker with a magnificent left footed finish into the top corner from a tight angle. The whistle blew for half time and it was very even.
A couple of changes in the second half saw Kian replace Harley in goal, Liam drop back into defence with Bradley, Joe and Ronan who entered the game on the right wing with Shea on the left and Harley as our striker.
The Hawks kept driving forward with their attacks and were knocking on the door constantly in the second half. Harley’s pace was too much for the Falcons defence.
The Falcons would not go down quietly and were keeping The Hawks on their toes.
The work rate continued as we pressed and pressed - this time scoring with a goal from a superb strike from Ronan who was a constant threat from the wing.
With just a few moments left of the match, the ball broke through to Harley who blistered through on goal again with his incredible pace and calmly slotted into the bottom corner.
With seconds to spare and The Falcons refusing to give in, Kian made a spectacular save with the last kick of the game.
Man of the match today went to Joe 🏆 giving 110% from the first whistle to the final whistle, he was an absolute engine for his team throughout.
A prime example of how great New Mills Juniors Football Club really is, our spectators were treated to a thriller today. Thank you all for your support as always.
Big thanks to Mark and The Falcons, what a superb team 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
