Match report NMJFC U8 Hornets - 06/11/22

This Sunday at Glossopdale we were involved in National Silent Support Weekend. This is an initiative that as come from The FA to allow the kids to:

Make their own decisions.

Make mistakes.

Develop independent decision-making options within the actual match.

As coaches it allowed us to assess their communication skills and how much they have learnt whilst not being distracted by anybody on the sidelines. They left us absolutely speechless with an incredible performance!

From the kick-off the lads were in the mood and I even think some of them were pushing their luck! Safe in the knowledge that their coaches couldn’t get involved vocally, they decided to mount a full on assault on the opposition goal and there were times in the first half when every single one of our players found themselves upfront and trying to score. The Hornets got their rewards but I have to mention the outstanding display from the Whaley goal-keeper in the first-half. He was brilliant & he even seemed to know when it was the post or cross-bars turn to make a save as he prepared himself for the rebound and then kept the ball infront of the goal-line.👏🏻

A quick chat at half-time enabled us as coaches to remind the boys that we still expect them to pass the ball around and work the wings before setting up goal-scoring opportunities for each-other. . . . . . .  Balls to that! They each went on a one-man mission to try get as many goals as possible.

Outstanding forward play and some amazing finishing from our attackers was great to watch. Moving forward, both of us as coaches prefer seeing the passing game where every-single player gets a touch of the ball whilst we build up the attack.

Loads of goals, loads of fun and the kids showed us today their desire to get involved and impact the game with their own individual performances.

The Hornets are in tremendous form right now and trying to get one of them to volunteer to go in goal is becoming more & more difficult. Luckily Captain Finley decided he’d take the first-half in nets and Frankie took a bit more persuasion, but finally agreed it was only fair if he went in goal for the second-half. Everybody will take a second turn & both of you are now free from this role for a few weeks at least.

Some tough games ahead for our Mini-Millers and we will go back to basics so we continue this incredible run we are on.

Player of The Match was Frankie. An outstanding first-half performance was then complimented by going in goal for the second- half. Frankie definitely didn’t want to ‘Be in Nets’ for the second half but neither did anybody else. Well Done Finley & Frankie for both being superb in goal!
