Match report NMJFC U8s Hornets - 30/10/22
Vs Tintwistle Diamonds.
The clocks had gone back, the wind was up, we didn’t train this week, it’s been half-term, and a couple of the boys were absent as they were on their holidays.
New Mills Hornets had many reasons for their incredible start to the season to be tested this weekend. Not a bit of it!
We were up against a very good Tintwistle team who are new this season to the Under 8’s league but it was quite clear from the kick-off – Tintwistle have yet another fantastic team who were extremely organised and this definitely proved to be the toughest match we have faced this season.
Albie took the gloves for the first-half. We’re rotating the Goal-Keepers at the moment and every single one of the players has had one-half in goal so far this year. Albie has just cemented his name in this team as the number 1 goal-stopper!! He made two or three saves that were utterly incredible & NOT point blank…. He adjusted his feet then dived across the goal and denied the opposition of an early lead. Albie did it again & again - the greatest performance I have seen from any of our Goalkeepers… Ever! 👏🏻
In defence we set-up with Frankie & Finley. We were aware of the quality of our opposition going forward. A little chat before kick-off with the pair of them and they did their job. Discipline is an incredible attribute at this age and once again they proved to be the foundation in which this team is built on.
Finley was just amazing. The heart of a Lion 🦁 This little lad never hides. 100% desire and both Finley & Frankie have created an understanding that is superior to their age. One goes forward, the other holds back…. It’s magic – Both of them got goals today.
In attack we have ‘Ronnie The Rocket’ 🚀 – Slamming home the first goal of the game. Much more importantly, Ronan is tracking back & putting the opposition under pressure. This is what pleases me most! Today he showed how important he can be defensively. Never giving up and doing the ‘Dirty Work’.
Oliver L stamped his authority on the game with a wonderful finish and then offered to take the gloves for the second-half.
Oliver L has been a shinning light with the Hornets. He loves this team and is proving to be a real team player. The best part of the second-half was definitely when Oliver L made the most outstanding save to keep The Hornets in the game.
Then we have Jessica – The improvement & understanding of the game is a joy to watch. Jess is moments away from the entire team celebrating her first goal.
As the game went on - The Hornets took complete control. Some of the passing, wide play & clinical crossing resulted in another fantastic performance by this ever improving group.
Both Frankie & Albie had a massive impact on the second half & I know the pair of them walked out of Glossopdale ‘As Proud as Punch’. Not only was Albie outstanding again on the ball but his tracking back in the second half saved multiple goals.
Finally – We got a special mention from today’s referee. When she asked for a word after the game I thought it was going to be another one of "those" chats . . . . . Far from it! She expressed how impressed she is with the current performance of The Hornets and even complimented their incredible progression and they way in which they conduct themselves. Super proud of this little group who continue to surpass all expectations.
The icing on the cake was getting home and reading the ‘Live’ minute-by-minute updates given by our Mum’s on the sidelines to those who couldn’t be in attendance. Not to mention some sneaky video highlights. Team-Spirit is absolutely bursting at the seams.
Player of The Match – Finley Arnfield 🏆 Imagine Nobby Styles & Lisandro Martinez gelled into a 7 year old…… That’s Our Finners!
Special mention to our goalkeepers - Albie first half & Oliver L second half. We don’t boast about goals scored on here but we can say without the pair of you we would have been on the end of a totally different scoreline.
