The U9s faced Wythenshawe Jaguars at the Power League in another late kick-off.
The match began with a minute’s silence, observed respectfully by both teams, to honor those who have died in conflict.
New Mills started strong with a couple of early chances, but the Jaguars remained composed. Within minutes, New Mills found themselves under pressure, having to defend against some fast and accurate passing from the opposition.
Gradually, New Mills settled into their rhythm, building from the back with Charlie T and Rhys defending well and playing the ball out to midfield. Good link-up play between Stanley, Teddy, and Charlie J allowed us to create a few promising chances down the left side.
The breakthrough came when Teddy spotted space and delivered a well-placed pass to the back post, where Jackson finished strongly to give New Mills a deserved goal.
After the break, many of our attacks were channeled through Jackson on the right. Charlie J’s goal provided the boys with the lift they needed, while Dylan also made several driving runs, pushing hard for another goal.
In goal, James had his hands full, as the Jaguars mounted some late attacks which put Pavac and Charlie T under pressure all the way to the end.
It was a tough match, but the boys showed great character and played some excellent football.
The Player of the Match award was given collectively, as it was difficult to single out one player given the effort and commitment shown by the whole team.
