Match report NMJFC U9s Hawks v NMJFC Eagles - 12/03/23
Derby day again at Glossopdale this Sunday and this time against The Eagles.
After picking up a knock in training earlier in the week, our goal machine Harley was a doubtful for this fixture, but after a late fitness check - he was able to don the number 1 jersey and be our man in goal for this fixture.
With a change of goalkeeper, we decided to really mix things up today and rotate the squad into positions that haven’t been familiar with.
Liam our captain and leader from the back, moved into a forward position as our striker and really showed his attacking qualities - linking up great with Kian and Bradley to pose a threat at The Eagles goalkeeper Zac who pulled off some incredible saves.
Joe, Ella and Shea made up our defensive wall and worked tirelessly as The Eagles threw everything they had at us in the first half - but they could not deny a thunderous volley straight into the top corner from close range.
Without some of the important and crucial saves Harley was forced to make, we could have easily been 3 or 4 down. The Hawks came off at half time with their backs against the wall.
This team know all too well the feeling of being put under pressure and being behind at the break, yet their attitude to get back on the pitch and turn things around is always second to none - they believe in themselves and they have each others backs all the way to the final whistle.
Some changes in the second half saw Bradley drop into defence alongside Kian and James, Ronan out on the left wing and Shea on the right wing - with Liam still our target man up top.
A penalty awarded to us early in the second half for a handball inside the box was calmly slotted home by Liam and this really gave us the momentum to build upon as we threw everything we had at The Eagles. More goals came courtesy of Kian, Ronan and Bradley, whose thunderous strike was a worldie of a goal! This saw The Hawks rewarded for their relentless work rate, never give up attitude and a desire to turn things around.
Man of the match today went to Bradley 🏆 - before the game, he wasn’t too keen on the idea of playing in defence, but the qualities he showed when asked to do a job for his team were superb and his goal was the icing on the cake for him today.
Big thanks to Riggers and his Eagles team - I’m sure all would agree it was a fantastic game for our New Mills supporters on the sidelines to spectate.
