FC Bluestars V NMJFC U11s Girls
What a morning! Thinking it was our last game of the season, the girls were all out for mixing things up and adding to their already strong team ethic and boy did they do that today. 100% energy, teamwork & effort made for a great game.
Straight off the bat our Freya B laying the ball on for Freya L to open the scoresheet. It didn’t stop there. With strong play throughout and some beautiful passing in tight areas, moving the ball forward, winning the ball back and closing down, the girls instinctively knew where their options were and created opportunities galore. Brooke very strong in 1v1s today, kept possession, beat her marker down the wing and displayed some perfectly timed crosses. Freya L returning the favour for Freya B to beat her goal tally from last season. Last part of the second half with tired legs, we’d dropped back a little and Bluestars clawed one back and into half time we went.
Jaz & Ava created many opportunities for the New Mills side with forcing mistakes from the opposition on the wings, giving us the upper hand throughout. Jay with great high press, marking opponents and communication throughout. Lily with some fantastically placed goal kicks and commanding her area. Who would have ever guessed what a purely brilliant second half was to come? You could feel the determination between them all and the buzz from the supporters. With the power play rule, Bluestars put us under pressure with the extra player but the mini Millers dug deep and took it up a notch. With a plethora of assists this season, Nieve’s tenacity to bag herself a goal today had us holding our breath, and there it was…. an assist from Nayia and Nieve found the back of the net…has to be THE best moment of the entire season. And if that wasn’t enough … our number 4 Bella pushed up high, saw a gap through the Bluestar defence and in full stretch, smashed it home. Icing on the cake! Every single one of them played their part today. Complete unselfish play. The best feel-good game to date! Amidst all the joy we didn’t choose Player of the Game but today we’d have had 10 of those trophies as they all deserved it. #yesgirls
