Match report NMJFC Under 7s - 09/01/22

Our football journey entered a new phase yesterday as New Mills Blacks played their first game of the group stage in The High Peak Juniors League U7’s Group A. For the next few weeks we will be playing the best teams in the local area and we were ready this morning to compete at this level.

After a few weeks off over the festive period, I was keen to see how the team would settle into the match and they didn’t disappoint! We came out the blocks firing and every single one them played their part in an explosive first half. It was all NM Blacks but the Hayfield Goalkeeper was absolutely incredible (again) and denied us of a first half lead on multiple occasions.

Second half was a different story and our dominance prevailed as we attacked the oppositions goal with real intent. Oliver B got things going with a lovely strikers finish followed by Frankie securing us a bit of breathing space. We were all over them now but at this level of football you have to take your chances …….. we most certainly did!

At the back we were solid. Nothing gets past Finley, he is our ‘Rock’. With Jacob and Sam by his side we have set a foundation to build on and long may it continue. The clean-sheet is just as good as scoring!

Whilst on the attack, Hayfield just couldn’t handle the quality of NM Blacks going forward. The passing in the last third of the pitch was majestic and just shows how much these kids have come on as a team. It was almost like watching rugby as the lads shifted the ball sideways waiting for an opportunity to pounce. Oliver B bagged himself another whilst Frankie went on a rampage to secure the game for New Mills.

Without doubt, this was the best performance of our season so far. Keep going my Mini-Millers.

Special mention to Albie & Jacob who both took a half in goal. I’ve said it once but will say it again, clean sheets win you games & you both smashed it! Well done.
