"We're going for the cup" was the cry from the coaches after a somewhat indifferent start to the season for our lads. They got off to a flyer when our Rocket slotted home an early penalty after Albie had been ambushed by the Bollington defence. Rocket was at it again with a perfect strike from distance. Our maestro kept the play alive then shifted the ball perfectly to Ronan who hit it first time and the ball nestled nicely in the back of the net.
Ronan looked superb in the middle of the pitch and returned the favour with a superb ball to Albie who beat the keeper and slotted home. Ollie M was poised to make an impact and received a tremendous pass from Oliver B and kept his cool to slot home.
The Hornets were playing some of the best football they've played this season and the boys came out firing again for the 2nd half. Oliver B was having a sensational game in his new role as right-back and did everything the coaches asked of him. Disciplined with his positional awareness, whilst not being afraid to bomb forward and be part of the attack and each & every time, Ronan or Frankie would step in to cover him. It was great to watch.
Albie was through again from another tremendous Oliver B assist and The Hornets decided to go into cruise-control and were reminding us all how simple the game is when everyone pulls their weight?! The problem with cruise-control, you've got to be ready to hit the break before it's too late and we definitely allowed ourselves to sleep into the comfort-zone.
Frankie got lucky after his penalty was saved but had the opportunity to put in the rebound and obliged. The best sight of all was watching one of youngsters from the U10's get involved again. Stanley has some incredible skills but his biggest asset to our team. is his work effic and how he never gives you less than 100%. Stanley got his reward with a mazey-run passed their defenders before relasing on of his trademak finishes from distance.
The boys were up for it today and I'm not suprised with it being a cup match. That's the mentality we need to take into every game moving forward.
POTM - Oliver B for embracing the coaches instructions and playing his best game of the season so far.
Wythenshawe Wanderers Wasps up next in The Cup for our boys.
