Match Report NMJFC U7's V Chinley U7s - 07/01/24

It was great to finally be back at Glossopdale for the first time in 2024! This team hadn’t played a match for 3 weeks due to the Xmas break but they have also been unable to train during that time too, so the cobwebs needed blowing off. Unfortunately, we were also missing Finn & Ryan so were asking a lot from our young team who went out with only one sub.

They did brilliantly! We had a pre-match chat about the game and how we would stick to our positions and the boys really listened. Aiden was switched on in goal. Reuben and Max were at the back and they both did really well. I think the pre-match chat may have confused them as we asked them both to take their time when passing out from defence, instead of just hitting it first time. The opposition never stopped pressing and the lads were up against it. The rewards will come but neither of them ever gave up and once Ned joined the defence we looked solid.

In attack, we were depending on Myles & Teddy to link up and get us some goals. Luckily, they were fantastic & Myles manged to find Teddy a few times with some great passing and Teddy ⚽️⚽️ grabbed himself a couple of goals and really enjoyed celebrating them too! Myles did an incredible job staying on the pitch as he clearly wasn’t well.

Reuben offered to go in goal for a bit in the second-half after a great performance outfield and he was superb. This was by far Reuben’s best performance of the season and even when he came back out of nets, he was getting involved in the game and making a real difference.

Max refused to give up & chased down every attack from the opposition, often keeping the Mini-Millers in the game. Ned was winning the ball back and trying to start the attacks.

Aiden made a great save with his feet to keep the game alive and was unlucky on occasions as he didn’t get the rub-of-the-green.

Player of the Match went to Teddy🏆 who also put in his best performance of the season so far. He ran his socks and seemed to really enjoy the extra space we had in attack. With us missing two of our best attackers, the whole team needed to stand up and be counted and every single one of them did!

The boys showed a real fighting spirit and as coaches we were proud and we also know what to work on to keep you all improving.

 ⚽️🖤💛⚽️
